Electronic Classrooms

FAU has room standards based on the type of equipment assigned to the classroom. These standards are used by the Registrar’s Office to effectively assign space based on the pedagogical needs of each instructor.

For regular classes, these facilities must be booked through the Registrar's Office prior to the scheduling of the academic term.

Overall, the Office of Information Technology (OIT) maintains 169 electronic classrooms throughout the Boca Raton, Davie, Jupiter, and Fort Lauderdale campuses.

The term e-classroom is used for the electronic equipment and network capabilities, which enhance the teaching and learning experience of the students.

E-classrooms are rooms that contain the following equipment:

  • Network Drops
  • Electrical Outlets
  • Wireless Network Access
  • Teaching Podium
  • Networked Computer
  • Mounted Projector
  • Laptop Accommodations
  • Blu-Ray Player
  • Document Camera
  • Sympodium (Touch Screen)
  • Touch Panel Crestron Control System
  • AirMedia (Wireless Presentation)

Electronic Classrooms Instructional Videos

The e-Classrooms at FAU are fitted with a variety of media and instructional technologies. The videos below serve as quick guides to get started with the pieces of equipment found in each one of these rooms.

Podium Touch Panel

A short walk-through on how to use the Crestron touch panels in our classrooms presented by John. These touch panels allow you to choose which AV sources (e.g. podium computer, laptop, document camera, air media, etc.) are displayed by the projector(s) in the room.

Podium Cable Cubby

The cable cubby consists of three components HDMI, USB-C, and Mini Display cables. The HDMI cable supplies a connection between a laptop (or other video device) and the projector/display. The USB-C cable is utilized on devices that do not necessarily have ports. The Mini-Display or Thunderbolt cable is mostly found in Mac products and establishes a video connection to the projector/display. In this video, Laurie demonstrates the different cables of the cubby and explains their functions.

Digital Tool | Smart Podium

The Smart Podium allows instructors to use the attached smart pen to make notes on the computer screen, on a PowerPoint presentation, Word Document, NotePad, or any other comment on the screen. To use the smart pen software, just use the smart pen to write on the screen, erase, or simply to click. You can choose from the menu options depending on your desired action as shown in the video. John will give a demonstration in this short video.

Screen Sharing Tool | Airmedia (PC/MAC)

AirMedia is a feature that allows you to broadcast what is on your laptop onto the monitor and projectors of a classroom. To use this feature, tap the Mobile tab on the touch panel. This will bring up the AirMedia screen on the monitor with a website URL and a code which you will use to make a successful connection. Basya explains the procedure in this video.

Screen Sharing Tool | Airmedia (iOS/Android)

AirMedia is a feature that allows you to broadcast what is on your mobile device onto the monitor and projectors of a classroom. To use this feature, tap the Mobile tab on the touch panel. This will bring up the AirMedia screen on the monitor with a website URL and a code which you will need to make a successful connection. In this video, Basya demonstrates the process.
